City tribute 1 year after bombings : April 15th

Former Boston Mayor Tom Menino, Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick lower their heads for a moment of silence during the tribute  Boston Marathon bombing anniversary.

小雨降りしきるボストンで4月15日、Boston Marathon Bombing１周年追悼式が挙行された。ボストン市警、ボストン消防局儀仗隊の追悼礼のなかで、犠牲者遺族、市民、それにTom Menino（前Boston Mayor）、Martin Walsh（Boston Mayor）、Joe Biden（Vice President）、Deval Patrick（Massachusetts Gov.）達が参列した。爆発の発生した午後２時49分に黙祷が捧げられ、参列者の追悼の辞が述べられた。

At 2:49 p.m. ET on April 15, President Obama will observe a moment of silence to mark the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing. 

去年の追悼式に直接参列したオバマ大統領は、ウクライナ問題の緊迫化のため、ホワイトハウスから式次第を見守った。

爆弾テロでは３人が犠牲となり、264人が負傷した。事件をきっかけにして市民の間からBoston Strong運動が広まり、追悼メッセージとしてシューズを捧げるムーブメントがボストンで発生した。この活動は現在も続いている。

The Boston Athletic Association, which organizers the marathon, said while　backpacks and handbags are prohibited for participants, spectators are also encouraged to leave such items at home.

Boston MarathonはWorld Marathon Majors（WMM）のシーズンオープナーとして、毎年Patriots’ Day（４月第３月曜日）に開催されてきた。2014年は４月21日に開催されるが、セキュリティは格段に強化されることが発表されている。

レース主催者のThe Boston Athletic Association（BAA）によれば、セキュリティの関係上、バックパック、ハンドバッグ、容量1リットルを越える容器は禁止される。またマスク、オーバーサイズのベストやジャケットも禁止された。以上の注意事項は沿道の観衆にも適用される。さらに、観衆が自転車や駆け足で伴走することも今年は禁止された。

BAAによれば2013年のレース参加者は27,000人だったが、今年は36,000人の予定である。このためBoston Police Department（BPD）は警備要員を去年（3,500人）の２倍に増員し、監視カメラや爆弾探知犬も大幅に増やすと発表している。
